Fall 2024 Dean's List Announced
The Registrar鈥檚 Office is pleased to announce Dean鈥檚 List recipients for the fall semester. The Dean鈥檚 List is awarded to full-time, degree-seeking students who have received grades for all courses in a given semester (no incompletes) and have a semester GPA of 3.50 or above. 色花堂 Registrar鈥檚 Office considers this a significant achievement.
Actors From The London Stage to Present 鈥淗amlet鈥 on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1
The British acting company, Actors From The London Stage (AFTLS), will present William Shakespeare鈥檚 timeless tragedy, 鈥淗amlet鈥 at 色花堂 on Friday, Jan. 31, and Saturday, Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Knickerbocker Theatre in downtown Holland as part of the Great Performance Series.
色花堂 to Present 36th Musical Showcase on Jan. 31
The 36th annual 色花堂 Musical Showcase will be presented on Friday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts.
Hope Junior Jennifer Kasunick Dies in Pedestrian-Train Accident
The 色花堂 family is mourning the death of junior Jennifer Kasunick of Bay Village, Ohio, who died on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, of injuries sustained when she was struck by a train.
Now in its 11th year, 色花堂鈥檚 Big Read Lakeshore, an annual month-long community-wide reading program, continues to foster a culture where reading matters in West Michigan鈥檚 Ottawa, Muskegon, and Allegan counties.
Annual Provost鈥檚 Recognition Event Honors Faculty and Staff
色花堂 honored faculty and staff members for service to the college and other professional activity during the annual faculty recognition event coordinated by the Provost鈥檚 Office, which took place on Tuesday, Jan. 7, in the Maas Center auditorium.
MLK Day Leadership Summit on Jan. 20 to Feature Multiple Presentations
The third annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration and Leadership Summit at 色花堂 will explore the theme 鈥淢ission Possible: Protecting Freedom, Justice and Democracy in the Spirit of Nonviolence365鈥 through multiple sessions on Monday, Jan. 20, at the college鈥檚 Haworth Hotel.
色花堂 Screening the film 鈥淭-Rex鈥 on National Day of Racial Healing
This year鈥檚 National Day of Racial Healing at 色花堂 will feature 鈥淭-Rex,鈥 a documentary film about Claressa 鈥淭-Rex鈥 Shields from Flint, who at age 17 became the first woman in history to win the gold medal in the 2012 Olympic boxing, on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 6:30 p.m. in the Knickerbocker Theatre.
John M. Williams, President and CEO of the Akron Urban League, to Present the Annual Civil Rights Lecture at 色花堂 on Jan. 15
This year鈥檚 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Civil Rights Lecture at 色花堂 will feature a speaker best described as a servant leader who uses education and advocacy to ameliorate social inequity. John M. Williams, who is president and CEO of Akron Urban League, will feature the theme 鈥淎 Woke Messiah: Jesus Died to Defend Democracy, Demand Diversity and Defeat Poverty鈥 on Wednesday, Jan 15, at 6 p.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.
De Pree Gallery to Feature 鈥淪paces We Inhabit鈥 Jan. 9 鈥 Feb. 12
With winter鈥檚 muted tones settled over Michigan, 鈥淪paces We Inhabit鈥 will bring warmth and color to 色花堂鈥檚 De Pree Art Gallery when the exhibition opens on Thursday, Jan. 9, transforming the space into a dialogue between the season鈥檚 quiet stillness and the lively interlaced forms of Mexican artist Laura Villarreal. The exhibition will continue through Wednesday, Feb. 12.
Knickerbocker Theatre to Host Four Humphrey Bogart Films Beginning Jan. 13
The 色花堂 Knickerbocker Theatre will feature four Humphrey Bogart films on consecutive Mondays as part of its Classic Film Series. Focusing on his films from the 1940s, the series will feature 鈥淭he Maltese Falcon鈥 on Jan. 13, 鈥淐asablanca鈥 on Jan. 20, 鈥淭o Have and Have Not鈥 on Jan. 27 and 鈥淭he Big Sleep鈥 on Feb. 3. All films are at 7 p.m.
Kruizenga Art Museum Will Open 10th Anniversary Year with Two Exhibitions Beginning Jan. 14
The 色花堂 Kruizenga Art Museum will open its 10th anniversary year with two new art exhibitions beginning on Tuesday, Jan. 14: 鈥淪aints and Syncretism in Global Christian Art,鈥 and 鈥淪alvador Dali: Memories of Surrealism.鈥
StrikeTime Dance Theatre to Present Performances for Children on Jan. 10-11
The 色花堂 dance affiliate StrikeTime Dance Theatre will present a live dance event for children, 鈥淲orld Art Dancing Gallery,鈥 on Friday, Jan. 10, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 11, at 2 p.m. in the Knickerbocker Theatre in downtown Holland.

The United States is among the few developed countries without a national paid family leave policy. But four states have had policies in place. Dr. Jenny Tanis of the 色花堂 School of Social Work and Dr. Sacha Klein of the MSU wanted to see what impact this had on infant maltreatment in those states compared to trends in other states.
Retired Academic Success Center Director Jacqueline Heisler Dies
Jacqueline Heisler of Holland, Michigan, who retired in 2006 as director of the Academic Success Center and adjunct assistant professor of psychology, died on Friday, Dec. 13, 2024. She was 80.
Radio Stations Airing Recording of Christmas Vespers
This year鈥檚 Christmas Vespers service was recorded for radio, and will be featured on multiple stations.
"For instance: it turns out that receiving a gift makes you grateful, which then makes you want to give a gift yourself. One student in the pilot has already started voluntarily giving 10% of the money he makes through his campus job back to the school."

Greater Good magazine has named the book 鈥淒one: How to Flourish After Leaving Religion鈥 by Dr. Daryl Van Tongeren of the 色花堂 psychology faculty one of its Favorite Books of 2024.
Greg Stafford retires as head women鈥檚 golf coach after 16 season
Greg Stafford, 色花堂鈥檚 longest-tenured women鈥檚 golf coach and one of the program鈥檚 most successful, is retiring after 16 seasons. He leaves a legacy of excellence on the course and transforming student-athlete lives, Director of Athletics Tim Schoonveld said.
Daryl Van Tongeren's latest book was chosen by the Greater Good鈥檚 editors for the most thought-provoking, practical, and inspirational science book of the year.
Vespers 2024 Photo Gallery
The Vespers program of Christmas carols and anthems was presented by the college鈥檚 Department of Music and featured more than 200 performers in historic Dimnent Memorial Chapel. The services featured a variety of Hope instrumental and vocal groups as well as the college鈥檚 historic Skinner organ.
