The Hope College Orchestra will perform with the student winners of the college’s annual Concerto-Aria Competition on Friday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts.
The public is invited. Admission is free.
The winners of this year's competition who will be featured are: William Lamm (timpani) performing “Horse Ride,” from Ney Rosauro’s “Concerto for Timpani and Full Orchestra”; Mallory Neebes (clarinet) performing Gioachino Rossini’s “Introduction and Theme with Variations”; and Kellen Woolhiser (piano) performing George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”
In addition, the orchestra will perform “O Magnum Mysterium,” by Morten Lauridsen and orchestrated by Samuel Pang.
The orchestra is directed by Samuel Pang, who is an assistant professor of music instruction and the director of orchestras at Hope College. Born and raised in Hong Kong, Pang is a conductor, violist, educator and worship music coordinator. He holds a Master of Music degree, a Bachelor of Music degree, and a Performer’s Certificate from the Eastman School of Music. He is currently an off-campus Master of Arts in Theological Studies student at Regent College in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
